Former Board President Wendy Slavkin spoke at an American Bar Association conference in Washington, DC, on Nov. 7, 2009, on the topic of “Addressing Substance Abuse in the Legal Profession and Stress Management Techniques for Lawyers.” While 8% to 10% of the general population suffers from the disease of chemical dependence, 15% to 18% of lawyers have the disease, Wendy noted. She spoke of the extraordinary stress that lawyers experience and her own struggle and recovery.
