When was Friendly House started?
Friendly House was founded in 1951 and was one of the first treatment centers in the country for women recovering from substance and alcohol abuse.

Who do you help?
We assist women recovering from the diseases of alcoholism and drug addiction, offering a compassionate alternative to women who would otherwise return to destructive environments.

How much does it cost for treatment?
Friendly House is one of the few affordable homes for women in recovery in Los Angeles. We ask each woman to pay for her treatmen if possiblet; however, we work on a sliding scale.

How are you funded?
The organization is solely supported by private donations and grants, by the fundraising efforts of the Board of Directors, Grateful Hearts (former residents of Friendly House), and special events such as our annual awards luncheon and Fashion for Life.

What is required to get in?
Admission is granted if we see an honest desire to stop substance abuse and a 72-hour detox prior to admission.

How long is the program?
A typical stay can last from one month to a year, with a monthly review to evaluate progress and determine the need for further recovery.

We focus on achieving a stabilized recovery from addiction, renewing family relationships, reintegrating into the community, and providing an established network within the self-help community, all tools needed to establish long-term sobriety.

What makes you different from other programs?
Basing our program on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, we have successfully treated tens of thousands of women with a success rate of 75% as opposed to the national hospital average of 35%.

Where are you located?
We have two residences. The main house, a seven-bedroom home built in the early 1900s, is located in the Mid-Wilshire district of Los Angeles and houses 16 women. Our newer residence, donated by the William Shatner Family Foundation, is a five-bedroom home located on the Westside of Los Angeles and accommodates 11 women.
