Peggy Albrecht, Executive Director
Like Friendly House, Peggy Albrecht is a success story. Through tenacity, hard work and sobriety, she has devoted her life to the service of others. Peggy has first-hand knowledge of what it is like to rise from the depths of alcoholism. Her own sobriety began over 35 years ago after she realized her world was collapsing around her.
In 1971 Peggy was employed as an executive at a Fortune 500 company and was a practicing alcoholic. “I found my drinking escalating and my life collapsing around me. I contemplated suicide and, during my last drunk, knew something had to change,” she says. Peggy called her brother and he took her to her first meeting on May 10, 1971. Peggy has been sober ever since that day.
Peggy became the Executive Director of Friendly House in 1982 and has been a driving force in creating a safe haven for women on the road to recovery. The hope she instills in each woman she meets transforms despair and doubt into self-worth and faith. Guided by the premise that “every woman should have a chance to fight the disease of alcoholism and find a new sense of dignity, integrity and self-esteem,” Peggy sets an example of service and caring for others with compassion and tolerance. Under her loving guidance, Friendly House has grown in stature, strength and reputation into two thriving resident homes, helping thousands of women achieve sobriety by providing a safe and structured environment. The personal satisfaction for Peggy is immense. “I can’t tell you how incredibly gratifying it is to watch so many of our former residents building happy, successful lives and knowing that we had a part in constructing the foundation,” Albrecht says.
Her many honors include the "Woman of Excellence" award from the Beverly Hills Business Women's Network and the "Woman of Achievement" award from both Grayson's Awareness Outreach and Mabel John's Jay Community Outreach.
